    City neighborhoods and nearby communities

Centre Park, Prince, Penn's Common and Queen Anne are within the City of Reading. West Reading, Wyomissing, Mount Penn and Shillington are separate boroughs; Cumru is a township. A sale just across a boundary is not automatically the best comparison.

Confirm availability for your full property address before making arrangements.

Tell us about the home, too.

An addition, extra unit or acreage may make your property different from others nearby. Include those details with the property type, approximate size and reason for the appraisal. Tell us about your deadline and any limits on access. If the value date is in the past, dated photographs and repair records can help explain what has changed since then.

    Centre Park

City of Reading · city historic district

Centre Park is a city historic district between Centre Avenue and North Fifth Street. Three-story rows, smaller houses on the narrow 'half' streets and brick twins give the neighborhood a mix of homes. If yours retains original glass, roofing or porch details, mention them when discussing the property. If you are planning exterior work, check the city's current historic-review and permit requirements for the address before making arrangements.

    Prince

City of Reading · city historic district along South Sixth Street

The Prince Historic District follows South Sixth Street from Cherry Street south to Canal Street and extends about a block to each side. Homes stand among churches, factories and shops. For a rowhouse here, its width, age and condition can help explain which sales are useful comparisons.

    Penn's Common

City of Reading · city historic district around City Park

Penn's Common is the park many call City Park, at the head of Penn Street, and the city historic district around it. The district has Federal and Victorian buildings with brick, wood, glass and iron details. For a home here, describe its condition and any original features or updates that might distinguish it from nearby houses.

    Queen Anne

City of Reading · National Register district

The Queen Anne Historic District is roughly bounded by Robeson Street, North Third Street, the railroad tracks and Clinton Street. Many of its buildings are brick rows and twins built from about 1880 to 1925. It is a National Register district, not one of the city's five local districts. Width, condition and updates can help distinguish one house from another when considering sales.

    West Reading

Borough of West Reading · across the Schuylkill River

West Reading is a separate borough across the Schuylkill River from downtown Reading. For an older duplex, tell us how the property is arranged and which areas can be entered. Similar age alone tells only part of the story. Share the repairs and updates made to your home.

    Wyomissing

Borough of Wyomissing · next to Reading

Wyomissing is a borough next to Reading, with early planned streets and later subdivisions. Tell us whether the home is on an older street or in a later subdivision. Its setting, age and updates can matter when considering which sales are comparable.

    Mount Penn

Borough of Mount Penn · east of the city

Mount Penn is a borough on Reading's eastern edge. Its center along Perkiomen Avenue and 23rd Street has one- and two-family homes, apartments and shops. Point out the home's original details, later additions and changes in use. Age, style and condition can help guide the comparison with other sales.

    Shillington

Borough of Shillington · Governor Mifflin region, southwest of the city

Shillington is a borough southwest of Reading in the Governor Mifflin region. Its housing includes detached houses, twins, townhouses and apartments. Property type and condition matter when looking at sales in and around the borough.

    Cumru Township

Cumru Township · Governor Mifflin region, south of the city

Cumru Township lies south of Reading. It includes neighborhoods such as Pennwyn, Colonial Hills, Mifflin Park and Montrose Manor, as well as older villages including Grill, Gouglersville and Angelica. Flying Hills mixes housing types around a golf course. A village house, a Flying Hills home and a newer subdivision house may call for different comparisons because their settings and housing types differ.

Records that help identify the home

The Berks County Assessment Office provides ownership and assessment resources. A parcel number can help when a mailing address and the legal property description differ. An assessed value and an appraisal for a private decision answer different questions.

For estate paperwork, the Berks County Register of Wills is a starting point for official county information. Ask your adviser which documents and valuation date apply to your matter.
